Niagara Police are out with a warning after a rash of car thefts in the Pelham area.

Police say Lexus and Toyota brand vehicles are being targeted, with the thefts usually happening in the early morning hours in residential areas.

In most cases, the suspects broke the rear door glass window, which does not trigger the vehicle’s alarm system.

Over the last couple of weeks there have been 7 calls for thefts and attempted thefts.

Police say in many cases, newer model Lexus SUV’s and Toyota brand vehicles including the Tundra, Highlander, and Land Cruiser, are being targeted.

Detectives are advising members of the public who own these brands of vehicles to consider aftermarket security measures and tracking devices to aid in theft deterrent.
