47-year-old arrested in Niagara RIDE spot check

A 47-year-old from St. Catharines was arrested in a RIDE spot check over the weekend.

Niagara Police were out looking for impaired drivers on Saturday night in St. Catharines, Thorold, and Niagara Falls.

Officers stopped 350 vehicles, and asked 24 to provide breath samples.

One driver, a 47-year-old from St. Catharines, registered a fail, with more than twice the legal limit for alcohol.

That driver was arrested and had their licence suspended for 90 days.

Two other drivers registered an ‘alert’ on the breath test and had their licenses suspended for 7 days.

Police also handed out 12 tickets and 4 warnings for charges included driving while under suspension, having an expired permit, using a handheld communication device, and 3 charges for children not being properly secured.
