‘Beach Day’ is coming up Friday in Niagara.

The event is an unofficial and unsanctioned “skip day” when local high school students ditch class to celebrate the end of the year.

It traditionally takes place on the first Friday in June.

Because it is not an officially recognized school event, the day often brings a heavy police presence.
Niagara Regional Police say they will be patrolling local beaches looking for underage drinking, and other offences.

The most popular local beaches where students gather include Bay Beach (Crystal Beach) in Fort Erie, Sunset Beach in St. Catharines and Long Beach in Wainfleet.
