A cold weather warning has been issued for Niagara.

Environment Canada says bitterly cold conditions will start this evening.

It will feel like -30 overnight into Saturday morning.

Extreme cold puts everyone at risk.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

The advice is to cover up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.

You are asked to check on older family, friends and neighbours.

There are a number of warming centres open for people to escape the cold.

In St. Catharines, facilities like the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre, the St. Catharines Museum, the Seymour-Hannah arena, and all St. Catharines Public Library Branches are open to the public.

Niagara Regional Transit offers free rides during extreme cold weather events.
