Say hello to Hamilton’s newest police horse, McMaster.
The nine-year-old is the first Clydesdale to join the Mounted Patrol Unit.
He was named by students from W.H. Ballard Public School and St. John the Baptist Catholic Elementary School.
The name was chosen in recognition of McMaster University, one of Hamilton’s most well-known institutions.
“Our Mounted Patrol Unit is an important part of community policing, helping us build trust and meaningful connections across Hamilton, said Chief Bergen. Having students from W.H. Ballard and St. John the Baptist help name McMaster makes his welcome even more special, and we are grateful for their creativity and enthusiasm.”
McMaster is currently undergoing extensive training before he begins patrolling Hamilton’s streets.
Hamilton Police look forward to introducing McMaster to the community in the months ahead.
