Officials in Niagara Falls want to see changes in the way Indigenous evacuees are offered help.
Former chief administrative officer Ken Todd says currently there are roughly 11-hundred evacuees being housed in local hotel rooms and that is straining services.
He says at a bare minimum the city should be offered financial help from upper levels of government.
Todd says upper levels of government really should be looking for a purpose-built evacuation centre that can be used in these circumstances.
Last year Niagara Falls housed nearly 5-thousand people from First Nations communities that were displaced by wildfires.
