Visitors to Fort George National Historic Site will be getting more than a history lesson this weekend.

On May 30 and 31, 2026, the historic site transforms into “Camp Niagara,” a First World War-era training ground brought back to life through immersive reenactments, authentic encampments, and live demonstrations running daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event, titled Fort George in the Great War, features reenactors from across North America portraying soldiers, nurses, and civilians who lived through the conflict.

Visitors can walk through a recreated military camp complete with period uniforms, tents, and equipment, while interactive demonstrations showcase aspects of training, battlefield innovation, and wartime life.

Organizers say the goal is to give guests a grounded, human look at Canada’s First World War experience, highlighting not just military operations, but also the personal stories and sacrifices behind them.

Expect boots on the ground, history in motion, and plenty of moments where you might forget you’re still in the 21st century.

Admission is included with general entry to the site.
