St. Catharines City Councillor Greg Miller says the Ford government will announce governance changes tomorrow for Niagara.

Miller, issuing a statement with two other councillors, saying any changes announced are being made without citizen input.

The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack, has a news conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 1:30.

610 CKTB will be covering the event.

Miller, along with Councillor Caleb Ratzlaff and Councillor Bruce Williamson, sent out a news release saying they oppose any changes the government will announce, and they disagree with a letter sent out by Mayor Mat Siscoe.

The letter, sent to Premier Doug Ford, was sent out publicly Tuesday from the Mayors of Grimsby, Port Colborne, West Lincoln, Pelham, Thorold, Wainfleet, St. Catharines, Lincoln, and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

It showed support for a weighted distribution voting model at the region that balances representation by population, and they asked that the government allowed some municipal councils to reduce their size.

Miller joined CKTB’s Karl Dockstader on The Drive today saying the nine mayors who sent the letter were already aware of tomorrow’s announcement, and they are ‘getting ahead of things.’

Miller says the letter is just from nine people, and it does not represent the will of the region.

He says the mayors of Niagara Falls and Welland did not sign the letter, showing that even cities who are calling for change can’t agree.
