A Hamilton committee has denied a proposed AI data centre that was proposed for the waterfront.

Slate Asset Management wanted to build the centre on 188 acres of the former Stelco property.

Hundreds of protesters rallied outside Hamilton City Hall, prior to the meeting, calling on the committee to deny the request, saying they were concerned about the centre’s impact on the environment.

Over 70 people spoke at the meeting against the move.

Slate Asset can appeal the ruling to the Ontario Land Tribunal.
