Hamilton teen who saved homeless man from tent fire awarded Carnegie Medal
06/22/2026 at 11:52 AMThe Carnegie Hero Fund has honoured 18 Canadian and American residents who risked their lives to save others.
A teenager from Hamilton, Ontario was awarded the Carnegie Medal, North America’s highest honour for civilian heroism after saving a man from a burning tent.
It was back on January 5th, 2025, when 17-year-old Ezekiel Fox, a Hamilton high schooler, noticed a burning tent and pulled a 53-year-old man to safety, rolling him in the snow to cool his burns.
Fox was the only Canadian awarded the honour this year.
The Carnegie Medal has been awarded to 10,581 individuals since the inception of the Pittsburgh-based Fund in 1904.
Each of the recipients or their survivors will receive a financial grant.
Throughout the 122 years since the Fund was established by industrialist-philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, nearly $47 million has been given in one-time grants, scholarship aid, death benefits, and continuing assistance.
