The American Hockey League team is coming to Hamilton.
Oak View Group, TD Coliseum and the NHL’s New York Islanders jointly announced today that the team playing in the city known colloquially as “The Hammer” will be called the Hamilton Hammers.
The Hammers’ name and logo were revealed at an event attended by Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horvath and representatives from the Islanders, TD Coliseum, OVG, and the AHL.
The Hammers will begin play in the AHL’s North Division next season.
Horvath says it is an exciting new chapter for the city and another major milestone in Hamilton’s growing reputation as a premier destination for sports and entertainment.
“The Hamilton Hammers brand reflects our city’s industrial heritage, resilience, and community pride while embracing the future of professional hockey in Hamilton. The return of AHL hockey will bring energy to our downtown, support local businesses, attract visitors, and create unforgettable experiences for fans and families across our community. Most importantly, this team will help inspire the next generation of athletes and strengthen the connection between professional hockey and our local community. Hamilton is ready to cheer on the Hamilton Hammers.”
