Niagara Regional Police suspended the license of a number of people over the weekend.
It comes as the Ministry of Transportation implemented changes that increase suspensions for first- and second-time alcohol offences.
The NRP set up a RIDE check Friday night in Welland and Niagara Falls.
They stopped 300 drivers and five provided breath samples that registered an “alert”.
That now comes with a seven-day suspension, up from three days previously.
Niagara Police also stopped a 55-year-old man in Niagara Falls who failed a breath test.
His vehicle was seized and his license was suspended for seven days.
Meantime, during the RIDE checks in Welland a woman was stopped who had already had her license suspended and she was wanted by OPP in Haldimond County.
Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
