We are getting more details on what led Niagara Police to issue a public safety alert in West Niagara this morning.
Police were called to a home in West Lincoln at 7:45 from a person who wanted an intoxicated man removed from the property.
Before police arrived, the man left in a white pick-up truck, and it was believed he had a gun.
Police say the man made comments that raised concern for his personal safety, the safety of the community, and the safety of responding officers.
As a result, police issued a public safety alert, brought in additional police units, and a nearby school was placed in a hold and secure as precaution.
A short time later, the truck was found and the man had went into a nearby wooded area.
Officers located firearm magazines and additional ammunition.
Police tracked the man down and successfully negotiated a peaceful surrender.
38-year-old Christopher Morley is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
