Murder rate down in Niagara in 2025, but more people are dying in car crashes: NRP

The Niagara Regional Police Service has released the 2025 Annual Report, detailing how many calls officers responded to in 2025.
The homicide rate fell 44 per cent with nine murder investigations.
Niagara Police responded to 148,000 calls, up 2 per cent from 2024.
Child abuse investigations were up 23 per cent last year, and 1800 people were referred to other agencies, marking a 56 per cent increase.
36 people died last year in car crashes on regional roads, a 56 per cent increase.
“Over the past year, our members have continued to respond to complex and evolving challenges with professionalism and a commitment to excellence. Whether supporting vulnerable individuals, enhancing road safety, investigating crime, or embracing innovative policing strategies, their efforts have helped make Niagara a safer place to live, work, and visit” said Chief of Police Bill Fordy.
