Niagara’s 911 system is getting an upgrade.
The new NG-911 system will be live on Wednesday.
First responders in Niagara will now be able to track the exact location of a caller’s cellphone, and receive information much faster.
St. Catharines Fire Chief Dave Upper says it works by tracking the caller’s longitude and latitude to pinpoint their exact location.
Phase two of NG-911 will include the ability to send texts, videos, photos, and providing the ability to video chat with first responders.
There is no current timeline for a phase two rollout.
