Niagara remains under an orange snowfall warning with snow, at times heavy, continuing tonight.

Another 5 cm could fall by the time the system moves out of the region.

Total snowfall amounts of 25 cm. are possible.

In addition to the widespread snow, a band of lake enhanced snow is expected to impact the area for a time tonight as winds shift to become northeasterly this evening and northerly overnight.

Snow will taper to periods of light snow or flurries overnight.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 km/h may result in local blowing snow, particularly for exposed areas.

Environment Canada says travel will likely be hazardous.

“Roads and walkways will likely be very difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Allow extra time for travel. Non-essential travel should be avoided. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.”

There were a number of cancellations in Niagara today, including Brock University closing the campus, the Niagara Icewine Festival called off planned festivities at the village in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Students in Niagara will have a snow day Monday with transportation cancelled and schools closed.

610 CKTB’s Storm Desk is open listing weather-related cancellations.
