The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority will not support a plan from the government to merge the group with a number of others.
The Ford government has announced plans to amalgamate 36 conservation authorities across the province into seven.
Under the plan the NPCA would be folded into the new Western Lake Ontario Regional Conservation Authority along with the Hamilton, Halton, and Credit Valley Conservation Authorities.
CAO Leilani Lee-Yates says the change would be a threat to equitable and accessible programs for the local watershed.

The board of the NPCA says they cannot support a plan for a number of reasons.
They note that there is insufficient justification for the change and strong efficiencies already achieved within the existing model.
The provincial plan is up for public comment until December 22.
