Canadians can expect their one-time grocery benefit payments in early June.
Canada Revenue Agency’s Secretary of State Wayne Long announced the new Canadian Groceries and Essentials Benefit will go out four times a year starting in July, replacing the current GST/HST credit.
Long stressed that Canadians must file their income tax returns to be eligible for the grocery refund. Quarterly payments will increase 25% over five years, starting July 2026 until 2031, with benefits paid out based on information from 2025 tax returns.
Transitioning away from the GST/HST credit, residents entitled to receive the credit in January this year will get an additional one-time tax credit top-up payment on June 5th, 2026.
Single individuals eligible for the CGEB could receive up to $679, with married or common law partners receiving a maximum $890.
