The Province of Ontario has formally approved changes to Port Colborne’s ward boundaries and City Council composition ahead of the 2026 municipal election.
The approved changes follow a March vote by Port Colborne City Council to support a reduction in the size of Council and implement a new ward structure based on the City’s 2025 Ward Boundary and Council Composition Review.
As a result, voters will elect six City Councillors and a Mayor when they go to the polls for the 2026 municipal election, replacing the current structure of eight councillors and a mayor.
Under the newly approved model, the City will be divided into three wards, each represented by two councillors.
Two wards will represent Port Colborne’s urban neighbourhoods, while one ward will represent the rural area of the city.
The wards were designed to reflect communities of interest while maintaining balanced population representation.
The city will be launching an interactive online map, on its website, for residents to search their address and confirm their ward.
It is expected to be ready next week.
