The possibility of government reform and regional amalgamation has caught the attention of many local politicians.

Newly appointed Regional Chair Bob Gale has sent a letter to all Niagara Mayors about the ‘urgent need’ for extreme changes in the region.

Port Colborne Mayor Bill Steele, in a post to social media, responded to the suggestions.

Steele addressed his disappointment in how this issue has come forward, however, he believes there’s merit in in reviewing aspects of governance particularly at the upper-tier level.

He goes on to say he supports efforts to examine how they can improve coordination, increase efficiency, and control costs for taxpayers.

Chair Bob Gale is asking for response from all Niagara mayors by March 3rd.

The next municipal election is October 26th.
