Positive Living Niagara and REACH Niagara have secured funding from the Niagara Region for the Welcoming Streets Initiative.
Director of StreetWorks Services at Positive Living Niagara, Talia Storm, says the pilot program helps to connect unhoused individuals to essential services.
Storm says it’s important to be proactive with how they engage with people who congregate downtown.
She adds that a huge part of the program are the Block Leaders that are on the street every day.
Block leaders are people with lived and living experience that are paid to do outreach with the program
The Welcoming Streets Initiative runs weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown St. Catharines.
