His death was announced in a statement posted to the park’s official Facebook page.
Tykolis was remembered as a devoted family man, community leader, and entrepreneur who helped transform a small hobby farm into the 150-acre wildlife and nature destination that became a fixture in the Niagara region.
Alongside his siblings, Tykolis co-founded Safari Niagara in memory of their father, helping establish the park as both a conservation-focused attraction and a family recreation space.
Serving as general manager from 2002 until 2023, Tykolis played a central role in the park’s development. Under his leadership, Safari Niagara expanded its animal care programs, operations, and visitor experiences, eventually earning accreditation and recognition as a trusted destination for families and nature enthusiasts.
The Facebook tribute described Tykolis as a leader whose vision, integrity, humour, and kindness left a lasting impact on staff members, visitors, and the broader community.
“Tim’s leadership, integrity, humour, and kindness left a lasting mark on our staff, guests, and the wider Niagara community,” the statement read. “His legacy lives on in the park he helped build and the countless lives he touched.”

Timothy Michael Tykolis will be remembered as a key figure in the growth of one of the region’s most prominent nature attractions.
