Speed limits will be going up on a number of highways in the Niagara and Hamilton area later this year.

As of September 30th, 2026, the Ontario government will increase speed limits from 100 km/hr to 110 km/hr on a number of local highways.

The new changes will impact Highway 403 from the QEW to Highway 401, Highway 406 from Westchester Avenue to Highway 58, QEW from Freeman Interchange to Highway 403, QEW from Concession Road to McLeod Road and QEW from Mountain Road to Jordan Road.

It was back in 2019, the QEW between Hamilton and St. Catharines had its speed limit increased, and in 2024, portions of Highway 403 (Brantford to Hamilton) and Highway 406 (Thorold to Welland) were also increased.

“Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government is helping get drivers where they’re going faster and safely, said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. We’re going to keep supporting commuters, workers and businesses by investing in our $31 billion plan to build and expand roads and highways, so we can get people and goods moving across Ontario and keep workers on the job.”
