A St. Catharines police officer has been awarded a medal following a courageous act.

It was back on December 6 of 2023 when Aidan James Loughlin, an OPP officer, was out with a friend.

He was walking when the pair came upon a burning apartment building in St. Catharines.

Loughlin kicked in a locked door, rushed to the second floor where he found 63-year-old Glen Havers lying unconscious.

Havers was rescued from the building and hospitalized with severe burns but survived.

Mayor Siscoe presented Loughlin with the Carnegie Medal this week.

The medal was established by Andrew Carnegie in 1904.

It is given out in recognition of heroism, which is defined as acts of lifesaving done at extraordinary risk to the rescuer.
