Thorold will have a new mayor come the fall.

Current Mayor Terry Ugulini says after much reflection, he will not be running in the October 26th municipal election.

Ugulini has been mayor of the city for eight years, and also served four years as a councillor.

He says while the city fought off amalgamation once again, it’s important to continue to look for efficiencies and cost savings.

“Working together with City Council and staff, we have made numerous achievements, while focusing on making the improvements our residents expect and doing it in a prudent, cost effective manner. I am confident this commitment will continue. Although it’s time to turn the reins over, my only hope is that we continue down the path we are currently on. It is our time, the future of the City of Thorold is bright, let’s take advantage of this window of opportunity, deliver results for our residents and lead the way for Niagara.”

Ugulini says he remains committed to the job until the end of his term in November.
