The Canadian economy added a better-than-expected 60,000 jobs in September.
Statistics Canada says the gains were concentrated in full-time work — as roughly 100,000 full-time jobs more than offset a drop in part-time work.
Overall employment is up by 22,000 net jobs since the start of the year as tariffs from the United States continue to put pressure on some critical Canadian sectors.
The unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.1 per cent.
Here in Niagara the unemployment rate ticked up just sightly to 7.1 percent, up from 7 percent last month.
In Hamilton the rate increased to 7.2 percent that is up .3 percent from the month before.
Provincially the unemployment rate sits at 7.9 percent.
Only the eastern provinces had a higher rate of unemployment last month.
