10/12/2025 at 08:35 AMA Welland man is facing multiple charges following a weekend RIDE initiative.
Friday night, police officers stopped around 250 vehicles in Welland and asked each driver if they had consumed any alcohol or drugs earlier in the evening.
In total, 18 drivers were required to provide a sample of their breath for analysis.
Police later stopped a vehicle in which the driver was a prohibited driver under the Criminal Code.
He was asked to provide a breath sample, but refused to comply.
The 57-year-old man has been charged with obstructing police, driving while prohibited, and refusal to comply.
Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
