A Welland mom is calling for changes to the province’s autism funding.

Meghan Maynard has two children diagnosed with autism.

She says her 9-year-old has been on the waitlist for the Ontario Autism Program Core Clinical Funding since 2023.

The program supports services such as behaviour and speech therapy.

Maynard says the problem is that many families expect to be on that waitlist for roughly five years.

She also has a 6-year-old that has been on the waitlist since last year.

Maynard adds that funding through Special Services at Home are also seeing delays.

That program reimburses families for critical expenses, but those funds are taking a minimum of two months to be processed.

Niagara Centre MPP Jeff Burch plans on bringing the issue to Queen’s Park when the legislature resumes next week.
