The Township of West Lincoln has unveiled its first-ever Pride bench, marking a new step toward promoting inclusivity and belonging within the community.

The bench has been installed in the garden outside the West Lincoln Community Centre, located on the south side near the Smithville Branch of the West Lincoln Public Library.

Township officials say the project is intended to serve as a visible symbol of acceptance and a reminder that everyone is welcome in West Lincoln.

“This Pride bench is a symbol of acceptance, kindness and community,” said Mayor Cheryl Ganann in a statement. “West Lincoln is strongest when everyone feels seen, valued and welcome.”

The initiative was led by Township staff, particularly Vanessa Hoffman, Supervisor of Parks and Recreation, and supported by Mayor Ganann, the Township’s Chief Administrative Officer and the West Lincoln Public Library.

According to the Township, the bench reflects an ongoing commitment to creating safe, respectful and inclusive public spaces for both residents and visitors.

“The installation of the Pride bench is an important milestone for the Township,” said Cynthia Summers, Director of Community and Protective Services. “Public spaces should reflect the diversity of the people who use them and this project helps demonstrate our commitment to inclusion, representation and community connection.”

Residents are encouraged to visit the bench and continue supporting efforts to foster a welcoming and respectful community.
